As a kid I used to wish on stars in the night
To stop myself from crying I’d try to catch the beams of light
You know you been heard when a star burns out after you wish
Before you learn to believe Jesus turned 1 into many fish
Prayer - you can put in your request but it’s hardly what you get
As you learn the rest from the mysteries that life is only what you let
But they never thought:
I’d remember everything they thought I’d forget...

“What about all these children and what about all their parents and what about all their crowns they wear in hair so long like mine and what about all their wishes wrapped up like garland roses around their little hands they said a prayer for the third time”

On Thursdays after school is where I would learn the words to prayer
On Sundays I would watch the black smoke thrown and the candles burn as I stare
Wondering why we were always separate there
A formal side and a basement
Where many tests along the way but the worst testing where my faith went

- if only for the night

And somewhere in between watching the slow mo or the world come to a hault
I learned to accept I was on borrowed time and neither the path nor the wrath my fault
They say I was wrong cause I traded it all just to be a mother and lost
But it was just a witches game stolen from my brother and I was tossed
‪As far as my walk I’m just going to stay true‬
And I don’t know what it means when I fell out of the car saying me? Shoe?

“And not for one to lose it cause they lost their mind”

I used to find comfort when I’d hear dead men walking and my floor would creek
Until I remembered what I forgot and now my allies could hardly speak
And in every moment in between I trusted I was with god
And I learned that never being a mother was only a facade
So I show them not to murder was the right thing... as they fly with birds and try to make sense of our words
