I don't love this though. I think I think wordplays have to be high impact in order to be interesting. They have a lot higher variance than interesting punches, you know what I mean? Like my range of bars goes from shitty wordplay to shitty concept to great concept to great wordplay. Wordplay punches occupy the highs and the lows. This one wasn't my favorite.

Ehhh I don't love this. I just don't feel like fishing is enough of a connection? It makes sense after you read it, but it's not satisfying. Like some bars you write, when I look back I'm like shit I shoulda seen that coming. And that makes them really feel good. This one makes sense, but there's nothing leading me down that path before it's revealed. And that's why I think it falls flat. When we talk about this in screenwriting it's called "postdictability."

This is why I don't love lots of wordplay punches here. I respect the work to get maxilla. That's cool. But I don't feel any impact from maxilla / jaw bone because I'm not surprised by the connection. You know what I mean? See postdictable, above. It's really hard to make a wordplay bar bang on two levels, but you have to to make it hot. And thats why the really solid ones kick so much. I feel like Blue did really well this week on clean, simple ones that were still surprising.
