    your not supposed to be getting a red signal when your recording, that means your clipping, and losing data.

    thats why people use slight compression when recording.

    and you want to record at a moderate level, not too low, and not overloading.

    a compressor is the best way to make sure you do it like that.

    Just adjust your microphone volume, so as when you are spitting your track at your fullest ferocity(if that makes sense) the levels dont go into the red, ,,just do some tests until you get the mic a the right volume..
