    Beginner wanting to make beats

    Hey everyone.

I am looking into making some beats to flow to. Can someone help me out on where to start? I am a serious beginner lol.

If anyone could give me some starter points, that would be wonderful.

    Many thanks!

go buy some beat programs like fruity loops 4 or 5 or reason pr just go get you a beat machine like a mpc 1000 if you not tryin to spend that much and get some keyboards

well..Since you are a beginner, and dont know if your going to stick with it yet. I wouldnt buy a program, There are easier ways of doing that ... But if I were you, I would get fruity, Its user friendly and you should be able to pick up on it quick. If your gonna be sampling youll probably need something to chop up samples in, I use acid pro, but you can use Adobe Audition (cool edit pro) and things like that. If you plan on composing, then it will probably to get a little foundation with music theory. Im sure you can find some basic stuff online. Also get better sounds, the ones in fruity are pretty limited, and not to great. Sorry if i was descriptive enough.. if you have more questions just ask.

You prolly don't get much of that stuff ^^^ bout sampling... Beat machines... Foundation with music theory... LOL I know when I first sarted with beats I didn't even know what the fuck a synth was. If I were you I wouldn't even start with a beat machine or keyboard (unless you are familiar with either already). I'de say just get fruity loops or reason like they said, and just use either one untill you really get the idea of it... And start learning how to really put together a beat with the program. Than it will make more sense what to do with the beat machine or keyboard when you do get it. If you just start with a program, play with it, get some cool samples and shit, imo that's gonna be the best way for you to get "started"

Re: Beginner wanting to make beats

Thank you so much for your replies.

And JayFro407 - it was comforting to read that when you first started you didn't know what a synth was - lol.

So I'm looking to buy Fruity Loops 4 or 5 then? I've had a look on eBay.co.uk and some of them are selling for about $5, or are these the wrong ones?

Cuz one of them was £90 - the FL Studio Fruity Loops Edition Music Software.

What's Fruity Loops 6.0 Producer XXL edition?

I am a little hesitant to spend so much money on a beginning piece of software. Is it essential?

    Any responses are appreciated.

    Thank you again.

Re: Beginner wanting to make beats

    Hey again,

I downloaded the FL Studio 6 demo because that's the only one I could find to download so I hope it's OK.

I had a little look at it, and browsed the user guide. It looks a bit confusing. So far I've figured out how to make timed sounds, like the kick and clap etc.

It looks pretty good, and I hope to get the hang of it although I think it will take some time.

I have listened to some of the beats from people on this forum and they're amazing! I would love to do something like that some day.

    Best wishes,

    Alis

Re: Beginner wanting to make beats

keep makin them loops...keep clicking them buttons where the kick goes and the clap goes...youll be able to do everything in like 6 months if you stick wit it...

just make basic drum loops for now...and start clickin every button on the program to find out what it does...fruity loops is one of the most user friendly programs...it might look confusing now...but give it some time

once you get the drum patterns down...and you want to put some melodies to it...start sampling songs....listen to songs on the radio that you like...old songs...new songs...and listen for parts of the song that you think you would be able to make a hip hop beat out of...then you actually cut that piece of the song out and use it in your own beat...

youll need more programs...and a whole library of songs, sounds, and plugins...but it takes time to get there...dedicate as much time as possible to this if your really serious about it...itll pay off

there are plenty of FLStudio tutorials on www.youtube.com

    just search for them
you can watch them and get the jist of learning how to operate the program.
