ion.... Removing echo/ removing reverb? (18-Mar-02 07:38PM )
- Anyone know how to do this? A buddy of mine films weddings for a living. He picks up a lot of echo from the natural acoustics of the churches and was wondering if there was a pluggin/process in something like sound forge that would be able to "reverse" or cancel the echo effect. I've used SF for years, and i've never once had to do anything of that sort, so im pretty clueless about how to do it. I've tried using noise gates and such but still doesnt give the desired effect. Any input would be appreciated, thanks.

- If a noise gate isn't doing it, the only other way would be to go into the wave file of the recording a fade out the end of every phrase manually--NOT fun at all. Why not normalize the track to make the vocals as loud as possible, and then put on a noise gate plugin with a medium long decay? That should get rid of most of the echo effect, without chopping off the ends of the phrases, and make the vocals a lot more intelligable. The best way, though, would be for your friend to close mic the main people doing the speaking, so he can get the vocals recorded as hot as possible, without so much of the church's reverb turning things into mush. It's much easier to get the audio right in the recording stage, as opposed to trying to fix it afterwords. Just a few thoughts.
Peace.
