You are so pretty in black…
The image of you left me with
thoughts of chocolate covered honey…
So intrigued by your essence that
I had to write this:

It makes me so proud to be a Black man
When you show off your natural elegance,
Flawless when you walk, and every time you talk
You show the world your intelligent elements.

I know they say love the mind
And the body will follow,
But beauty like that
Just inspires my tomorrow,
Sheds new light on my yesterday
And elates my today.
And I’ll just pray
And thank God that you looked my way.

And yes, I’ll confess, that black dress
Was the best thing you could wear
To protect your baby-soft skin
And everything therein
From those lustful stares of men.

I want to thank you for being
A fine example of Black women…
Physically, You are radiant and stunning
Without the “mask”
Hairstyles reminding me
Of how creative you can be
And every curve of your body
Sends my mind to a place that, right now,
I know I shouldn’t be.

Spiritually, you respect yourself
Thus, demanding respect from others
Carrying yourself with such confidence,
Straightforwardness, and politeness at the same time,
I know this skill was taught by your mother.

Speechless, because I’m hit with all this at one time
Not to mention the uniqueness of your style,
Thinking this type of woman
Will be the mother of my children,
I just closed my eyes and smiled.

So pretty in black that I’d give my life
To protect you from harm,
But before I go, I just wanted to know
Would you look that pretty…in my arms?
