Thread: Open Mic Magazine: "For the People, By the People"

Re: Open Mic Magazine: "For the People, By the People"

I don't take my trollhat off much these days on RB, so here we go: Finally read this mag in full. Choice words from everyone all around. Thanks to everyone who contributed for a refreshing and inspiring read. Kudos to KnowP for giving some light to verses being slept on. Interesting to read Mentill's synopsis of SS. If I wasn't involved in a league elsewhere, I'd be competing here tbh. Big ups to Jukebox for laying pipe with "feedback or die" considering the greedy fucks who wanted to bitch at me for calling them out (e.g. English). Excellent perspective from Illy all around. We share a lot of similar views which is cool to see and know. Thanks for the mention as well. And that Shiny Toy Guns song is pretty cool. They're new to me, but that fucking song is catchy as hell.

I honestly did not realize I wrote so much, holy shit, lol. Really cool to read Self Activate echo the same sentiments in regards to feedback Illy and myself espoused. It's almost like we're trying to stress something important, ya know? lol @ the beef section tbh. Cody is challenged by his mere existence; I am only here to give his life purpose. Emily vs Dagel is classic. I'm Team Emily all day. Cody's more of a Team Fagel type tbh (everybody boo that man). Awesome pictures and topics provided by the Jukebox Hero - like, really awesome. Sensational outro from the vivacious Emily! Her mention of "The Queen of Beastiality Porn" (sic) finally convinced me to read it and, boy, what an extraordinary piece of writing it is!

Once again, good stuff all around. Always interesting to delve into the minds of others however brief.

fwiw, Cody was #3 on my list, lol. Here's his snippet if anyone cares:

    3] phX

Cody Phoenix. The Phoenix of the Coast. I will be honest and say there is some personal bad blood between us for reasons I am not entirely sure of; but since I am being honest, I cannot deny that I am a fan of his writing. We know each other from RR and it is fun to troll him here given our brief history. Despite the personal ish, Cody is a great creative writer. I find some obvious similarities in our styles at time and particularly our influences, but we very much have our unique traits as well. I must say I admire his creativity when it comes to writing and his original use of melodic instrumentals. Reading text with instrumentals in the background was never an interest of mine until I stumbled upon his writing on RR. I still am not a fan of it in general, actually, but his particular choice of instrumentals are typically good and extremely interesting. I find myself saving some of them from YouTube to listen to on my own accord.

Let it be known, despite what people may say of him personally, his writing ability cannot be denied. It appears to me he is knocking off the rust with his latest submissions here on RB, but if he continues to be active and even ramps up his activity with more frequent submissions, he is definitely someone to look out for. He is very capable of writing well and being one of the best writers on the site.

@Emily might be on to something. Maybe we should do a rookies mag and give them a little spotlight. Highlighting all the new writers and possibly doing an interview or two to see how they're feeling the site, section, etc. I know when I first came,I had tons to add to the site but didn't know where to start or even if people were feeling my bars or not. You know how thinned out the feedback is when you're new. You get the cold shoulder until you hop in a league or tourney.

@whoami no doubt bruh. Had to shed some light on some pieces that have been missed. I'm guilty for reading and not leaving feedback too, but some writers should never be slept on like @English @Enoch Light @selph active to name a few. Glad we could make this happen. @Jukon how often you trying to do these? 4 weeks? 8 weeks?

I havent completely read through the mag yet, but thanks in advance to everyone who made this happen

and i appreciate what your saying @KnowP

however, i honestly haven't put out much material since my 'return' so if i want recognized i need to step up and work for that recognition. I haven't done anything as of late to be featured in a mag or to even make myself relevant again, but that will soon change

Yeah I could do it monthly but to be honest I hate mags and I'd rather make a huge one every other month than jus small ones monthly. Can get way more content this way I think

No one thinks of the girls, the way you did KnowP : (
Dropping leaf man for Cla, me and Miss Push, back then.
My eyes still water at the sheer mention of him.
It'll go down in history. Classic R.B moment.

What ever happened to miss push? She was pretty nice. I wish you were here when rb was alive. I hate the state it's in. Forever to get feed and votes when it only took an hour.

Yeah, people often talk of the glory days. I don't know any different so for me, this is still cool.
As for Miss Push, I have no idea. OG Maestro might know. I think she was from his area.
Not sure if they keep in touch. @OG Maestro , any idea?

we will never see a rap forum again that produces the activity that these type of forums used to generate in the early to mid 2000s

we are slowly being choked out because in the grand scheme of social networking "forums" are a primitive format

and trust me, it pains me to say that. . but its true.

we are a very small minority of like minded people that are not being replaced by a newer generation. thats why every forum takes a massive hit every time it permanently looses a member
