youtubes audio quality stops upgrading after 720p if im not mistaken.
It's universal now across all video qualities for modern uploads as video and audio are streamed separate. For legacy videos, this was the case...check daevl's link above for more details. Currently the audio is compressed either ~128kbit/s AAC or ~160kbit/s OPUS which in some rare cases can show audible artifacts (depending on what is in the audio itself or if the original file's encoding was lossy and/or low bitrate can exacerbate this) but in most cases it's not audible when done proper, as expected.
