Developed and owned by IO Interactive, Hitman 3's boxed release was handled by Square Enix, the company that previously owned the franchise before letting it go. The last game, 2018's Hitman 2, was published by Warner Bros.
While Hitman 3 was having a confusing rollout on PC, that didn’t seem to kill off the hype for the game. The game has surpassed its predecessor and has claimed the number one spot on the UK boxed charts (via GamesIndustry.biz). Launch sales for the title were up 17% compared to its predecessor.
As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, the eighth (just go with it) mainline entry in the long-running murderthon, Hitman 3 was the biggest-selling physical release in the UK last week, with the PS5 platform accounting for almost half of all sales. Speaking of PS5, Sony Interactive Entertainment's pseudo-sequel Spider-Man: Miles Morales also made a return to the Top Ten, web-slinging in at number four, while Demon's Souls made its return to the Top 40 at number 27.
The best-selling version of the new Hitman game was for PS5, making up 49 percent of all copies sold. The Xbox One version made up 27 percent of sales, and the PS4 version 25 percent. While the digital marketplace could show something different, this is a decent indicator of where users prefer to spend their money right now.
While only 800 copies separate Hitman 3 from Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the Nintendo Switch exclusive has finally been pushed down to second place. With no new updates for a short while, the latest Animal Crossing game saw sales drop by 8 percent week-on-week.
Another big riser was Ring Fit Adventure. The Nintendo Switch fitness game has frequently jumped up the charts during the pandemic whenever new stock comes into the market. The game rises to No.7 with a 47% sales rise.
