I vote yes, his accomps are across the board in different platforms and are well above simply champing a league or two.

I say with a big tourney win or another legendary piece other than the battle he would get a yes for me. To further justify what I mean. He's only won 1 GG while King won 4 of them and has a bigger list of accomplishments.

I mean you have to also take into account that he came in 2010 around the time when the majority of the heavy hitters in topical and poetry were gone. he is a good writer but we haven't really been able to see him against the sites best, and I'm not sure what he brings to OM is unique and perfected enough to negate that fact.

I like Oats, but I don't think he's quite as accomplished as our other Legendary writers. No, for now.

really the only knock against Oatmeal is the lack of a long list of a accomps.

when he was active in SS, he had a legendary battle with token, and AT LEAST one other nom'd (against Black). i'm pretty sure there was a third but i'd have to go find it.

that being said, anyone who's been around RB a while knows that legend noms are far and few between. so for someone to get nom'd 2 or 3 times in a short period, and actually get one voted in on top of that, is quite an accomplishment. i think that if he had 2 get in, or all 3, this would be an auto yes from everyone, so the noms have to be considered imo.

second big factor for oat imo is the live success he's had. i've seen him do very well (win maybe) in slam competitions with pieces he dropped on this site first, and for someone to take their work off the site and have real world success with it means more than any RB accomp tbh.

I'm going to read through all the links posted on this one also. I will post my thoughts once I have finished.

I believe i like oats work from what i have read. I dont know if my opinion is even valid. I mean i have participated in the LLL, but other than that, i never really won too many before i gave that up and picked up the microphone. I do like to and have a good idea what im doing. But i dont know if good is good enough when youre judging some of the best the site may have to offer.

That said, i will have a read through the links and come back with an edit later on.

I've been at this site something like 10+ years and think I'm respected enough across multiple boards for my opinion to hold some weight in this field -

I'm going to readily admit, topical writing is not the least bit interesting to me. I started reading a couple links and I got bored. Not to discredit any skill it contained. From a catalogue standpoint though what was provided doesn't seem like enough to call "legendary".

Just a question - why are only my topical accomplishments being considered? If someone excelled in multiple areas, why categorize them in only one?

otherwise just search my name in open mic, speaks for itself. Idk if I'm just an idiot, but I can't find my old FL battles or the LLL forum at all lol. So allow me to demystify some misconceptions in here.

first, to whoever said I didn't battle the "heavy hitters." Here are some of my contemporaries while I was in SS: soulstice, black, brandon cee, cry, fresh, malice, nahlidge, token, and that's all I can think of off the top of my head. So that's an inaccurate assessment. I'm not going to go into my topical accomplishments elsewhere on the internet, but suffice it to say I'm more well-regarded than just about everyone currently in Legends. only reason I bring that up is because, if anything, the knocks against this bid (which was a pleasant surprise, by the way) should only be regarding my accomplishments; anyone questioning the actual writing is risible.

as far as battling, I was undefeated in the LLL, culminating in an LLL HOF win in a champ match against King (who should also be a shoe-in for Legends tbh). I had a tenure as FL champ where I defended it the max allowable times, all my defenses against former or future FL champs. I also had strong stints in 1-2 and haiku. On a sidenote, I used to have a page in the TNL subforum that linked every single thing I did on RB, don't know what happened to it.

the main flaw in my ledger is no big tournament win. I was a semifinalist twice in the gauntlet, both times losing to the eventual champ (in one case, by a single vote). I also was a season finalist against Black for SS, in one of the best - if not THE best - topical match on RB in recent memory. I've gone back and read probably 2/3 of topical battles on this site, and not many are even remotely close. I'd genuinely like to see a link to something better. Other than that, there were very few tournaments that took place while I was most active. can't hold someone for being 0/0 when there were 0 opportunities.

and as King mentioned, I was nominated three times for legends at a time when this forum was a graveyard, two of them getting in. Oatmeal moved the needle.


many people boast exorbitant stats of double-digit OM HOF's and whatnot, which honestly is a testament to a. the overall weakness of the scene and b. the bullshit that permeated the topical parts of this site for a long time. This is not new information. If I don't get in, it's because I haven't won a tournament, that's really about it.

Everybody was voting no for text and some people were voting yes for topical. Then King PM'd me and said I should just nominate you for topical because you'd have a better chance. Like literally , NOBODY said yes when I had your text achievements up. And like four people said no. So some votes were deleted and I edited out your text links so it'd be topical only.

I feel you, I just think it's silly to distinguish between the two. The PERSON should be nominated, as a whole. If the person did a bunch of shit, it should all be looked at and evaluated together. It's not topical legends and battling legends, it's just legends.
