I'm entering a poetry contest. I want to find an interesting/sentimental topic, but i'm having a hard time elaborating on something. Suggestions?

if you cant find something that connects with people then you shouldn't be a writer. Think about it like this, we are all different, but we all have similar feelings and interest. You have to search for something within you that sparks a deep gut wrenching feeling that anybody can relate to, and then you just write it out on paper. 90% of the time people will be able to relate to your sentiments, and if they cant they'll at least acknowledge the effort you put into your writing.
